Description

This wonderful solid wood mask is a new art form for Richard Gorman. Stars, lightning, friendship, & migration are among the symbols painted onto the surface. Beautiful feathers from many different birds adorn the piece. The earrings and mimbres pottery medallion are carved from wood as well. The beautiful pastel colors are a reminder of the sunrise in the southwest desert. A great new style for Richard whose combined Hopi/Navajo heritage brings symbolic meaning from both cultures to his work.

Richard Gorman is not to be confused with late Navajo artist R.C. Gorman. This Richard Gorman identifies himself as Hopi & his work has been shown at various shows around the country such as the Pueblo Grande Museum, Heard Museum, Eitlejoge Museum, Native American Film Festival in San Francisco, CA, Kansas Indian Market , White Mountain Native American Art Festival and the Gallup Ceremonial. At several of these shows he won awards for both his paintings and katsina carvings.
