This weapon goes by many names. To the Sioux, Cherokee & Blackfoot, it's the Skull Cracker. To the Apache, it's a Flop Head. But the weapon is powerful & delivers a deadly blow. This one is traditionally made by Cherokee artist Ondie. It's made with a cottonwood shaft wrapped in buckskin sewn with artifical sinew & decorated with beads & paint, & genuine horse hair. Traditionally, the horse hair would be scalps. There is usually a large river rock or other smooth stone in the head of this weapon which is sewn up in buckskin. It is meant to be loose so as to gain centrfical force when swung at the enemy increasing the damage of the stike attack. A very wicked but effective weapon for close quarter battle.
